First off, I'm not the only one looking for a book of which I've forgotten the title. If you are also looking for a book, feel free to post your inquiry in this forum so we don't clutter up the directory.

Now, my question:

I'm looking for a book that I read around 1998 (latest is 1999 may have been as early as 1995). It was a loosely disguised allegory on African Colonization and De-Colonization. It took place on a foreign planet over several generations from first contact to de-colonization (in the book, equal voting rights). For some reason the title "Under Bandur's Tree" seems to stick in my mind, but I've never been able to find a book with a similar title at Amazon or any other source. I remember the blurb on the cover said that the author had wither won or been nominated for an award. I also believe that the author was female (although I could be wrong on that one. I only recently found out that Kim Stanley Robinson is a man). The copy I read was paperback. Rather it ever came out in hard cover or not I don't know. I've been looking for this book for about two years now and would really appreciate it if anyone could help me. If you think of any other information I could provide to make the search easier, also let me know that.
