The Sci-Fi channel in proposing a new reality show that would hold Paganism, Wicca and Voodoo up to potential ridicule. Those of us that practice these religions are appalled that the Sci-Fi channel would believe that it is appropriate to propose such a program. They wouldn't dare to do that to Christianity, Judiaism, Islam or any racial minority in this country. Doing so would result in such an outcry that they might well find themselves in court.

Is it OK then to use their network to perpetuate stereotypes about a religion that is not in the majority? They don't want "banker by day, witch by night" Pagans, they want the full-time witch who "looks and acts the part 24/7." What is "the part?" Do you know what a real Wiccan or Pagan looks like?

They don't want a true representation of our beliefs or practioners, they want something shocking, unrealistic and wrong. Most of us are "average Joes." We are teachers, lawyers, shop owners. We don't force our beliefs on anyone and most of us don't sacrifice animals. We're your neighbors, friends and relatives; you just might be surprised about who you know who practices Paganism.

Let them know that it's not OK to perpetuate stereotypes whether it's religious, racial, ethnic or otherwise. This country is a great one, let's make it better for everyone by supporting our cause.
